About the Directors

    This is Mrs. Marlin's 10th year as Director of Bands at Warren G. Harding High School and her 30th year of teaching. An alumnus of WGH, Mrs. Marlin earned her B.M. from the Dana School of Music, YSU, and her M. in Ed. from Marygrove College. Besides teaching, she also performs with the Warren Brass Quintet, of which she is a founding member, and a variety of area ensembles. She is the mother of three children, Josh, Robbie, and Caitlyn, and her 'better' half, Sid, runs his own music business.

    This is Mr. Rollo's 22nd year teaching. He is assistant band director and also the director of the jazz department. Mr. Rollo performs in the Packard Band and his own smooth jazz group called Cruise Control. He is an alumnus of WGH, received his B.M. from YSU and his M.M. from Vandercook College.

Goals of the Program

1. To offer to all high school students a variety of instrumental performing experiences.
2. To teach students, through the medium of music, team and life skills that they will utilize throughout their lives.
3. To expand their experiences and awareness of a variety of music.
4. To teach children the importance of community and that they can make a difference.
 
Policies
 
1. Band is a PERFORMANCE CLASS; students must perform on their instrument daily!
2. Only missed performances which have been excused ahead of time by Mrs. Marlin, can be made up either via a 6 page report, additional performance, etc.  This is decided by the director.  THERE ARE NO MAKEUPS FOR PLAYOFF GAMES AND CONTESTS!!!!
3. Students need a 1.5 gr. pt. average each trimester to remain in band.
4. Work is NEVER an excuse to miss class or a performance.
5. Students who do not strive to perform at acceptable levels may be removed from band.
6. Seniors must be in good standing with the band to be eligible for awards, scholarships, trips, and so forth.
7. To be in good standing, a student must have all fees paid and be FULLY participating in the band during the current semester.
8. All rehearsals and performances are MANDATORY!
9. Students who rent school instruments are totally responsible for the care and maintenance of that instrument.
